Buying a new handbag can sometimes be real challenge, and if you think that you have to do this at least one time each season, you realize that there is a lot of time and effort spent into tracking those perfect luxury handbags. First we have the numerous designers that each have their own style; choosing between names like Gucci, Prada, Fendi, Louis Vuitton and many more is always difficult. Then we have the many models from each brand that varies in shape, size, design and the smallest detail can make the difference when it comes to luxury handbags. Going to all these shops and comparing quality and prices can really take a lot of time and while women usually like shopping, there is a time when you just want to buy one and get it over with.
Here is where shopping online has the advantage over going from store to store. Online shops are much easier to access and also faster; you can browse through hundreds of handbags in a day and you can compare every aspect of them, especially the price. These are never cheap but when it comes to online shopping you might just be able to save a few dollars on a brand new luxury designer handbag. Another benefit is that you can also read what other costumers have to say about some items and you can also get fashion tips; of course, the sellers at a luxury store are also very eager to tell you what a specific handbag goes with best.
Getting a luxury handbag doesn’t take away from the thrill of finding that perfect one and some pictures found in stores may influence you in one way or another; you may like how a handbag looks on a model with a cute outfit and so you might end up buying the handbag and the clothes to go with it.
There is however one disadvantage to shopping online for luxury handbags; you can’t feel the material and take a close look at it. While all online shops have pictures and short descriptions of their products, it doesn’t compare to actually being able to pick it up and analyze it from every angle and also try it on. Other than this there is no reason why you shouldn’t get you luxury handbags online, it is faster, cheaper, and more efficient. Most stores have a return policy so if you don’t like what you get in the mail, you can send it back and get your money.
Body dimensions vary from one person to another and for most people, it is very difficult to find a perfect pair of jeans. Even if you find one, it may be sometimes too long for your height or a little loose at the waist. The same situation arises on losing weight. One fine morning, you may find that your clothes are getting baggy. The solution for your problem is alteration, which can be easily done in ordinary clothes. But, altering jeans is considered a difficult task and most people approach a tailor, for this purpose. If you have some time to spare and the right materials, then, you can alter the jeans on your own.
Basic Alteration of Jeans
As far as alteration of jeans is concerned, the thickness of the material is the main problem. Stitching such thick material may prove difficult, if you do not have the right materials and are unaware of the right method. All you need for jeans alteration is some heavy-duty threads, denim iron-on patches and scissors. Before altering jeans, you must make sure that the measurements are perfect. If the material is new and is likely to shrink after washing, it will be better to take the measurements after that only.
How to Hem Jeans
If you have a pair of jeans that fits well, except the extra length, you can always go for alteration. You can hem the jeans and make it perfect. Hemming jeans is not a difficult task and can be easily done at home, with the following tips.
- Take out one of your jeans with correct fittings. Measure its inseam and find the correct length.
- Measure the length of the jeans to be altered. Compare both measurements and mark the portion to be cut off (from the jeans to be altered). Make sure to leave an extra inch for stitching the hem.
- Now fold the hem of the jeans by half an inch, followed by another half-inch fold. Two folds are necessary to make the hem thick.
- The next step is to stitch the hem. Make sure to fix the sewing machine with denim needle and heavy-duty thread with matching color.
- Stitch the hem and you are done with your alteration. Always ensure that the hem is even in both legs.
- Another method is to retain the hem, by making an inner fold, adjacent to it (hem). Fold the hem up and stitch the cuff. The stitch should be closer to the hem.
- In case, you want to retain the original hem, the above said method will do, but the measurements must be correct. If you want to reduce two inches of length from the jeans, the cuff (made by folding up the hem) should have a length of an inch (excluding the hem).
- If you are among those who prefer retention of the original hem, then, you may cut off the extra length from the bottom of the jeans and re-attach the original hem.
How to Alter Jeans Waistline
Another common problem with jeans fittings is bigger waistline. Altering waistline is little bit complicated. You have to do it perfectly for achieving the right fitting. Go through the following guidelines for a basic understanding about how to alter a jeans with a bigger waist.
- First of all, wear the jeans and pull on the waistband, at the center back belt loop. Pull it, till the waistline fits you perfectly.
- Now, hold the fold tightly and pin it (vertically) with a safety-pin. Remove the jeans and mark the fold with a pencil.
- The marking will be a V-shaped one (that is pointed towards the bottom of the jeans) with the belt loop in the center.
- Now, remove the center back belt loop and make two vertical cuts through the V-shaped-marking on the waistline (where the loop was attached). The V-shaped cut should not be deeper than the lower end of the belt loop (that is removed).
- Now, match the edges (of the ‘V’s) perfectly and iron a denim patch onto the inner part of the waistline. It should be stuck over the joined edges of the ‘V’ cut.
- Now, you can stitch the edges together with hand or with a sewing machine. If you are using a sewing machine, then it will be better to use the zigzag setting with a stitch length of around 1 mm.
- Don’t forget to attach the center back belt loop and your jeans will be ready with a perfect-fitting waistline.
- If the waistline is so loose, that the V-shaped marking has a width of more than an inch, it will be better to make two skinny V’s (½- inch each) along the belt loops on both sides of the center back belt loop (and no cuts on the back center loop). This is to make the alteration less obvious.
How to Alter Regular Jeans to Skinny Jeans
This is one of the easiest methods to alter your regular jeans to skinny ones. All you have to do is to wear the jeans inside out and sit on a flat surface with legs straight, flat and slightly apart. Now, you can decide how much narrow you want the jeans to be. Once decided, make the marking from the bottom to the thigh, on both legs of the jeans. You have to stitch through the line to make the jeans narrow. Instead of making the line, you may pin up the whole length and mark it afterward. Ensure that once you stitch through the line, the jeans should not be too tight or too loose. Use of pins would be a better option, so that you will be able to feel the fitting, before you stitch through the line. All you have to do is to remove the jeans and stitch through the marking. Your skinny jeans is ready to wear. You may or may not cut off the excess jeans (inside) and stitch the edges to prevent fraying. Another easy method is to take the measurements of a perfect-fitting jeans and alter the regular one as per those measurements.
Now, you must have realized that altering jeans is not at all difficult. The advantage is that you know your body dimensions better than anyone else and so, you are the better person to undertake this task. You can also save the alteration charges. If you are worried about spoiling the expensive jeans, by trying your hand on it, you can practice with an old pair, before cutting the new one. You don’t have to master the art of tailoring to do this simple and easy job. Moreover, the satisfaction is all yours!
I wrote an article on this a few years back but I wanted to give this followup article. There is always a question as to if a Coach Handbag is authentic or not. Distributors that make fake Coach Handbags are getting even better with there reproductions it is getting harder and harder these days to tell the difference.
That being said, I found a sure fire way to find out if a COACH handbag is authentic or not. Especially if your shopping for the handbag on eBay. Its really very simple. Coach has been recording the serial numbers of there bags for a while now, especially there newer bags. If you find a handbag that you have a question as to if it is authentic or not just take get the serial number and call Coach on there 1-800 line. You can get the number from COACH.com. Give that serial number to the customer service agent and he/she will tell you if the handbag is authentic or not. It is that simple. Don’t try to take the handbag to a store as the clerks are not equipped to answer such a question.
Secondly, holder handbags are a different story. Yes, Coach has been recording the serial numbers of there handbags for a while but some of the older handbags are just not in this database the customer service representative have access to. In this case you will have to take a step of faith and send the handbag into COACH for them to evaluate it. They will send the purse back with a authenticity letter or a letter stating that the handbag is fake.
So on older handbags how are they able to evaluate the handbag?
Well, it seams that COACH has been sticking with the same fabric for there handbags for years. They are able to evaluate the fabric as well as the stitching techniques to say yea or na to an handbags authentic character. One other tell sign is on older style bags, if the interior patch says made in Italy, Costa Rica, or United States, and there is no misspelling of the words – the item is most certainly authentic. But would still check out the serial number with Coach.
I hope this followup give you a easier time in evaluating COACH merchandise.
Ape a Celeb
Want to be dressed like the original diva who gave boyfriend jeans their rightful place in fashionable wardrobes? Well, just look at Katie Holmes for inspiration. She started the trend way back in 2008 when she practically lived in these baggy denims. If her tomboyish style doesn’t do the trick for you, then Sienna Miller’s style will probably be a better fashion fit.
Once upon a time, in a land we probably recognize from everyday drudgery, lived a couple who were blissfully in love. Eric and Ariana had satisfying jobs, great friends, and best of all, separate wardrobes. It made for a wonderful life. Until that day when a pair of jeans became the proverbial spoke in the wheel. It drove Eric mad with anxiety, while Ariana continued living her life in blissful ignorance. This is the story of how Eric, our charming hero, overcame his monsters, and went back to living the life he was meant to.
Chapter 1: Is she wearing my jeans?
Day 1: Picnic with Friends
Hannah’s picnic. That’s where it all started. That fateful day in the park when Eric suddenly noticed something very off about Ariana. She was always a little moody when it came to spending time with large crowds. But not that day. She was gregariously happy. His mind was in turmoil. Had something happened? Was there someone new in her life? She always hated these things. The people. The stupid dress codes. That’s when he realized what was different. Her clothes.
Ari was what everyone called a complete girly-girl; she hated the idea of wearing denims. Miner’s clothes, she called them. And her dislike always showed on her face. But today, things were different. Her jeans weren’t the usual skinny ones. She was wearing her favorite grungy, vintage tee with that pair of orange sneakers she loved and normally, kept for outings she liked. But her jeans; they were baggy, loose, low-slung; almost like a guy’s jeans. And then, it struck him. That’s what was different. Ari was wearing his jeans. Why?
Chapter 2 : Wait! Those ripped jeans to work?
Day 4: Office
A one-off; that’s what it was. There was nothing more to it. Maybe she was just more comfortable in baggy clothes. It didn’t seem like her. But hey, people change! Right? Eric really didn’t think there was anything more to it. But boy, was he wrong! A couple of days later, Eric got back from his morning jog, walking into a bit of a surprise. Searching for Ari, he peeked into the bedroom, and he was shocked.
She was wearing his denims again. To work, to top it all. Why? Granted, it was a gorgeous look, but didn’t she have enough clothes in that overflowing room that she called a closet. Why was she ransacking his bare minimum cupboard? He had to admit though, he would never have thought of his denims being worn with a blazer, striped tee, and heels. But this was getting a bit too much now. Should he speak to her about the boundaries they had set? Or was he just over-reacting?
He had heard horror stories where girlfriends would take over their boyfriends’ wardrobes, and style it according to what they thought worked best. But this was completely new. His bewilderment of the first two times gave way to resignation. Ariana was all about boundaries, and if she was taking stuff from his cupboard it was probably with good reason. He just figured he would ask her when they went for dinner on the weekend.
Chapter 3 : Okay! She looks like she knows what she’s doing!
Day 8: Dinner Date
Their favorite little Italian joint, good music, and heavenly food. Eric was looking forward to a wonderful evening with his favorite girl. And nothing would make him think too much. But there was no way he could have known that his denims were going to make an appearance at the dinner table. But they did, and he was so flabbergasted at seeing them being worn with a cape and high heels , that he remained a little tongue-tied throughout.
He did manage to compliment her on her appearance, though. He figured the look was kinda growing on him. He decided he would just tell her to keep the denims. They looked better on her. He would tell her the next time she wore them.
Chapter 4 : Alright then! They’re obviously not mine anymore.
Day 15: Indie Music Festival
And the opportunity presented itself soon enough. They were going for the indie music festival, and he was waiting for her in the living room. She came out in this very tomboy-inspired, yet feminine attire; a slinky top in bright green, long earrings in pink, a hat, and his denims. And she looked so stylish. He figured it was now or never.
That’s when he told her.”You know Ari, my jeans look better on you. You should just keep them.” “Huh?! What?”, replied a very surprised Ariana. “These aren’t yours. They just look like yours.” “Stop hiding it sweetheart. I know they’re mine. They have rips exactly where I have them and everything,” said Eric. “Yeah Eric, that’s because I painstakingly created this ripped look using your jeans as my inspiration. These are mine. They’re called boyfriend jeans ‘cos they look like men’s jeans. Don’t believe me? I can prove it to you with one trip to the mall.”
That trip to the mall did happen. Eric was shown the boyfriend jeans shelf with gleeful enthusiasm by Ariana. The mystery that remained was where were his jeans. Well, information about them came via a phone call a couple of days later when the dry-cleaners called to ask him to pick them up. The pickup had been long overdue apparently.
Note from the Writer
This is a fictional account. Do not use this story as inspiration for actually stealing your boyfriend’s jeans. It will not work as a valid defense. Please visit your neighborhood mall to buy boyfriend jeans which, to be clear, are jeans made for women inspired by denims worn by men.
